"Portrait" finds its origins in the Latin word "pro trahere," meaning "to draw forth, to reveal." This project, in collaboration with the NGO CAVOEQUIVA, seeks to provide a voice to young girls who have experienced trafficking, abuse, and gender-based violence while protecting their anonymity. The hardships these girls endured need to be heard, and this project offers a safe means for them to share their stories. The project involved interviews, personal testimonies, and artistic self-portraits. Through self-portraits, the girls can visually represent themselves and their experiences, allowing them to express their narratives in a deeply personal way. This artistic process is designed to empower the participants, giving them the freedom to reveal themselves on their own terms. By putting a face to their stories, we aim to evoke empathy, illustrating not only what they went through but also how they choose to be seen.
